6th Grade
legacy project
6th graders at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Waverly, IA have a very unique project that they work on throughout their entire 6th grade year. It's a Capstone project. It has many phases; including researching the Legacy of the town and it's members, the state, and the United States. In Art, we concentrate on the Legacy of each student. They do a little soul searching and figure out what the Legacy is that they left at St. Paul's. Or, what did they gain from St. Paul's to create their own Legacy.
This ultimately results in a multi-media project that is done on 11x15 canvas board. They are encouraged to use many mediums and to use words of some type. Many examples are shown prior to starting. We discuss which mediums will work on top of others and (for example) how oil pastel can't be the first layer, as paint won't stick to oil pastel... oil and water don't mix. |
