What is Coil Pottery?
The Coil Hand Building Process started with Jomon Pottery. Jomon pottery is a form of pottery created during the Jomon Period in Ancient Japan. Jomon, when translated means "rope pattern" or "cord making". These rope or cord patterns are created by hand building with coils and pressing textures into wet clay. Pottery or Ceramics is one of the oldest forms of art. It is also one of the most functional. Pottery was first used to store and preserve food and beverages. It was later used for artistic purposes. |
