Materials and Manipulations
W-SR doesn't have Kindergarten Art. But, if I were teaching it, this is what I would do.
Kindergarten Artists get to learn all about the Materials and Manipulations (M&Ms) of the Art Room. The main goal is to put every type of medium (markers, crayons, colored pencils, oil pastels, paint, clay etc.) in their hands that I possibly can. Teach them how to use each medium correctly and how to take care of, and respect, the tools in the art room.
All Kindergarteners are now "professional artists" because they now have an art teacher! They get to learn "Artist's Secrets" including:
*the Magic Eraser
*how to make a REAL tree
*Overlapping and how to use it
*how to take care of Mr. Ichabod (the paintbrush)
*where the real sun appears in a picture (not in the corner!)
*how to make the ground, or horizon line, overlap the subject on the ground
